Pocket Tools. There is something about that phrase that just grabs my attention. Maybe it is because my world is already too crowded yet always calling for more innovations, which require more tools to maintain or repair them.
So I am a pushover when it comes to efficiently utilizing space. Why carry around 20 or 30 separate tools, each requiring its own handle, when one handle could suffice for all of them? My Leatherman Surge hangs quietly on my belt waiting for service. Being a handyman by trade I am always in need of some tool. Yes I have screwdrivers in my toolbox, as well as saws, files, pliers, crimpers, cutters, and measuring devices-- good quality ones, too. But when I am on a ladder, and my toolbox is across the room, it is much easier to reach for my Leatherman and get exactly what I need.
Oh, there are some tradeoffs when we put two or more things in the space of one, but sometimes the sacrifice is worth it. I used to sleep in a double bed all by myself. Soon after I got married my wife and I lived on a fire lookout that was equipped with only a narrowed version of a single bed. But the two of us made it—for three months! A sacrifice? No way! And that's how I feel about my Leatherman and other multitasking tools.
So I offer you today a site devoted to Pocket Tools. Look us over and see if there is not something that could save some valuable space in your toolbox, purse, glove compartment, drawer, back or fanny pack, fishing box, or pocket. You might find the tradeoff very satisfying!
